Thermal label paper and how to identify it.
Thermal label paper, also known as thermal sticker paper or thermal decal paper, is considered a special type of adhesive decal paper because a line of ink is integrated into the decal surface. When passed through the thermal head of the printer, the integrated ink layer appears on the decal surface. The printed ink is then easily visible.
There are two ways to distinguish thermal printing paper from regular label printing paper:
- You can gently run your finger across the paper to see a faint black line; you can see the image below.
- To test the thermal printing paper, heat the surface of the sticker with a flame. If it turns black due to the ink, it's thermal printing paper.
Thermal printing paper is divided into two types: direct thermal printing paper and indirect thermal printing paper.
Direct thermal label paper: As its name suggests, direct thermal label paper has an integrated ink layer on top, eliminating the need for ink while still producing sharp, cost-effective prints. It allows for quick printouts without the need for ink removal. Suitable for thermal printers.
For indirect thermal label printing: This type of label material still requires the use of accompanying ink to achieve sharp prints. The ink is still mixed with the paper, but you still need to use the ink that comes with it. However, inexpensive inks can still produce sharp, high-quality images.
Indirect thermal label paper uses the included ink.
